The Heart of Rock and Roll Audition Announcement

Landmark Community Theatre will be holding auditions for THE HEART OF ROCK AND ROLL on May 31st and June 1st from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Auditions will be on a first come, first served basis. Auditions will run from 6 p.m. to 9p.m. on both days with dance auditions held from 7:00 – 7:30 pm and 8:30 – 9:00pm. Morgan Griffin will direct the show, with music direction by Owen McGowan, choreography by Shelby Griffin, and stage management by Michelle Eifes. The show dates are August 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23 for a total of 6 performances.Performances will be held on Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. Rehearsals will begin on Sunday, June 7th and continue to be held 3 times a week. Rehearsal days are tentatively scheduled for Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Schedule may change based on cast availability.

All those auditioning should bring an accompaniment recording (no vocals) with them and be prepared to sing 32 bars (about a minute) of a fully memorized musical theater song showcasing the style and vocal range of the character for which they are auditioning. Songs from the show will be allowed. Additional vocalizing may also be a part of the audition to determine vocal range and harmonizing skills. Everyone will also be asked to dance. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Age range to audition is 13 years old to 19 years old.

Plot Summary: Set in 1987 and jam-packed with HueyLewis mega hits like “Do You Believe in Love,” “Hip to Be Square,” and “IfThis Is It,” The Heart of Rock and Roll centers on a couple of twenty-somethings on the cusp of their futures — Bobby, a rock and roller who’s traded his guitar for the corporate ladder and his boss Cassandra who’s always put the family business first. When they both get a second shot at their dreams, it’ll take “The Power of Love” and a little help from their friends to figure out what kind of life they really want. 

 

CharacterBreakdown

·     Bobby: A former rock singer now"working for a livin'" in a corporate job, trying to balance his passion for music with his new career. He is ambitious, charming, and the romantic lead.

·      Cassandra (Cassie): Bobby’s boss, who has sacrificed her personal life to run her father's company. She is business-savvy, smart, and initially all about the bottom line.

·     Stone: Cassandra’s Mother and the founder of Stone, Inc. She is a supportive but demanding figure, balancing Motherly kindness with the pressures of running the business.

·     Roz: Cassandra’s wry and loyal

·      Tucker: A snotty, corporate-minded rival to Bobby, who competes for Cassandra’s attention and a higher position in the company.

·      Pat: One ofBobby's bandmates, who is trying to keep their rock and roll dreams alive.

·      Chrissy: Another member of Bobby’s band, often bringing comedy to their, often failed, musical pursuits.

·      Deborah: The third member of the band, rounding out the trio of friends/bandmates.

·      Paige: A friend and colleague who is part of the corporate office team.

·     Fjord: A wealthy, eccentric Swedish furniture magnate whom the company is trying to win over.

·      Ensemble: All gender identities. Those with dance experience are a plus.
