Distinguished Citizen to be Honored
The Rotary Club of Thomaston will be honoring Franziska Grohoski Manuel as this year’s Distinguished Citizen, for her unselfish service to the Citizens of Thomaston. The many noteworthy ways in which she has served the Town is by volunteering at the Friends of the Thomaston Library, the local Senior Council and for years at the Thomaston Opera House as a seamstress. Franziska also gives people rides to various appointments. She visits with nursing home residents, assisting them in getting to their daily activities. In the past, she also worked in the canteen during Red Cross Blood drives. Franziska’s list of giving goes on and on.
This is our thirty-seventh year in which a deserving Citizen will be honored”, said Roger Perreault, Chairman of the Committee. “We look for individuals who have donated numerous hours over an extended period of time, not for recognition, not for remuneration, but for the benefit of others and the Community. Without a doubt, Franziska certainly qualifies for this award. Because of Manuel’s efforts, Thomaston is a better place in which to live.”
The Rotary Club will be soliciting residences and businesses for financial support in honor of Franziska. All of the contributions will help to fund the Rotary Scholarship Program. Each year Thomaston students receive over $15,000 in Scholarships from the Rotary Club. This year’s Scholarships will be awarded in honor of Franziska Grohoski Manuel.
On April 24th a banquet will be held to recognize Manuel. Tickets for this memorable occasion will soon be available from Rotarians and at the Thomaston Public Library.
