Landmark Community Theatre’s Student Drama program holds auditions for SWEENEY TODD at the Thomaston Opera House.

Auditions:  Sunday, May 21st 2017 at 5:00pm 

                   Monday, May 22nd 2017 at 7:00pm 

Callbacks: Thursday, May 24th 2017 at 7:00pm

Location: Arts Center Theatre (located on Level 2) Thomaston Opera House 158 Main Street, Thomaston, CT

LCT will be holding auditions for SWEENEY TODD on May 21st & 22nd in the Arts Center Theatre located on Level 2 of the Thomaston Opera House. Callbacks will be held on Thursday, May 24th. Auditions will be on a first come, first served basis. Dan Checovetes will direct the show, with music direction by Dan Porri. The show dates are August 10th, 11th, & 12th, for a total of 3 performances. Rehearsals will begin on June 5th and continue to be held on Monday & Wednesday evenings at 6pm.  

Auditioners must bring sheet music with them and be prepared to sing 32 bars (about a minute) of a fully memorized musical theater song showcasing the style and vocal range of the character for which they are auditioning. Songs from SWEENEY TODD are allowed. Additional vocalizing may also be a part of the audition to determine vocal range and harmonizing skills. An accompanist will be provided; no recorded accompaniment is permitted. Maximum age to audition is 21 years old.   

Plot Summary: An infamous tale, Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to nineteenth century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which, he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett's luck sharply shifts when Todd's thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up... and the carnage has only just begun! 

Character Breakdown: 

  • Sweeney Todd: A wrongfully imprisoned barber seeking to right the wrongs committed against him. He is Johanna's father, singularly focused on taking bloody revenge. Our story's tormented protagonist.   
  • Mrs. Lovett: An entrepreneurial and amoral meat pie shop owner. She falls in love with Todd and turns his desire for revenge into a profitable business venture.   
  • Anthony Hope: A naive and youthful sailor returning to London. He helps Todd return to London and unexpectedly falls in love with Johanna.   
  • Johanna: A spritely girl, full of innocence, constantly yearning for freedom. Todd's long-lost daughter and Turpin's ward.   
  • Tobias Ragg: A poor youngster apprenticed to Pirelli. He finds a surrogate family in Todd and Lovett.   
  • Judge Turpin: A lecherous public official who portrays himself as a sanctimonious authoritarian. He takes advantage of his position in the city and is responsible for imprisoning Todd.   
  • The Beadle: A pompous public official. He is deeply loyal to the corrupt Turpin.   
  • Beggar Woman: A deranged and schizophrenic woman who harbors a dark, surprising secret.   
  • Adolfo Pirelli: A flamboyant Italian rival barber; a charlatan with a secret past.   
  • Jonas Fogg: The owner of Fogg's Asylum. He sells the hair of madmen to wigmakers.   
  • Male/Female Ensemble: Townspeople; Policemen; Lunatics
